Summer Fun

With it being the last day of August, I thought I'd have a look back at the summer fun we've had. I know there's still some summer left, but once September hits, it starts to feel less like summer and more like fall.

Here are a few favourite summer things to do...

We also LOVE the park and hanging out with family and friends. Another thing we enjoy is the summer produce, especially all the fresh fruit (I'm sure we ate several pounds of blueberries over the last few months).

The more these two little people hang out, the closer they become...

They make each other laugh, they look out for each other, and they are starting to play together more and more. It's such a blessing to watch them interact.

I hope you've had a wonderful summer, enjoying the things that matter most.

More than clothes in the closet...

Hello! How are you on this fine Tuesday? I suppose those of you who have school aged children are gearing up for school and perhaps have even started back. It's always an exciting time of year. I can remember shopping for school supplies and new clothes and packing up my back pack for that first day back.

Anyway, that has nothing to do with what I want to share today, other than the bit about clothes. I have some lovely closets to share today, and they all have this one thing in common - all of them are furnished closets which makes them more like dressings rooms. I've noticed that, if people have the space, they seem to be turning their closets into more than a place to store the clothes. Many closets now have stylish seating, tables or desks, dressing tables, and even fireplaces! Have a look.

A fireplace in a closet seems like a real luxury, but it would so nice on those cold, winter mornings.
Now, I'm off to catch a quick nap. It was one of those nights last night in the MacMillan household, and everyone is a little on the tired side.

Feathers Everywhere

Happy Monday! The last week of August... already?! Wowzers. I've really enjoyed the summer though; it's been very beautiful in our part of the world. Many trips to the park, lots of swimming, travelling here and there... we've enjoyed all the summer goodness. I hope you have too!

For today, I thought I'd share one trend I've noticed popping up in all sorts of places. That trend is the use of feathers. Here's a space designed by Samantha Pynn that puts an extra large feather photograph front and centre.

I've managed to round up a few "feather furnishings" for the home. As you can see, there's everything from pendants to pillows to platters.

And a few fashionable feathers...

Feathers bring a natural, earthy feel to a home, but also have a whimsical, dreamy, and perhaps slightly feminine feel to them.

Yes, feathers are everywhere!

My Top 5 Beds

O.k. so I've done it again. There are way more than 5 beds in this week's round up. Sheesh! I promise that they're all fabulous though, and therefore should be included.

You'll forgive me, won't you? Thanks. You're darling.

O.k. so here they are...

#1 Upholstered Beds and Headboards (These are all the rage right now.)

#2 French-Inspired, Girly Glam Beds

#3 Pretty & Whimsical Iron Beds

#4 Mirrored Beds

#5 Simple & Elegant Beds

Whew! I told you there more than 5 (he he). Hope you enjoyed them, and now, get out there and enjoy your weekend. I guess it's the last weekend of the summer in some ways. (Boo Hoo)

Designer Feature: Tricia Huntley

There are so many great designers out there, and here's one who stood out to me when I stumbled across her work recently.

Tricia Huntley is an American designer based out of the Washington DC area. She is currently working on projects in the DC area, South Carolina, Arizona and Switzerland. Her design style has been described as "American Luxe", and I think you'll see why.

Here's a look at some of her design work. (My favourites of course.)

I love this first space: floors, artwork, bocci pendant light... yum!

Simply stunning! You can visit Tricia's portfolio to see more of her work.

Thanks for stopping by!

Birthday Shopping

Hi all! How are you on this fine day? As you may or may not know, I turned 28 last Wednesday (the 17th). Gosh. 30 is getting awfully close! I hear 30 is the new 20 though, so that sounds good to me.

I was given some moola for my birthday, so now I'm in shopping mode! I've been eyeing the dresses over at Shabby Apple for quite some time now. Many of you are likely familiar with them. They have some really lovely dresses and quite a large selection. I love the slight vintage feel many of the styles have. Unfortunately, I'm having some trouble deciding which one is my favourite. Perhaps you can give me some help.

Here are the ones I've narrowed it down to. Have a look, and let me know which is your favourite!

Jacob's Pillow, black and white polka dot

Sierra Nevada in teal blue

Baja Dress in navy and white

Tuxedo III Dress in Brown Linen (belt NOT included)

Ming Dress in black and white

So, which is do you like the best? Aren't they all darling? You can see why I'm having trouble deciding.

Thanks for the help and have a super day!
