Painting No. 30

It's the 30th of April and I'm done this daily painting thing. Whippee! Happy, happy.

Would you believe this is the 3rd painting I did today? I was trying something new and it just didn't work. I had this feeling like the final painting had to earth shattering, but I ended up doing something that I've done before. It's still pretty though. AND best of all, I don't have to paint tomorrow unless I want to. Yay. Thank you a million times over for making this a successful endeavor. I can't wait to hand over the proceeds to my friend.

I plan to be back tomorrow with some of paintings that didn't sell to give you one last chance to purchase/donate. Thanks again.

Painting No. 29

I'm back with more earthy, organic goodness for today. The colours are a little different from yesterday's painting - perhaps more subtle - and the shapes have obviously evolved into a varied composition.

#29 "Ship Shape" (Watercolour on Paper, 5X7)

Just one more painting to go, friends. Yay!

Painting No. 28

Here's something completely different for today. My focus was organic shapes in earthy tones. I love how the colours overlap and bleed into one another creating some wonderful depth and interest.

My kids are wearing flip flops and I'm about to fire up the BBQ! This calls for a happy dance.

It's finally here - the last week of April! I've got a pretty watercolour to start this week of right. AND the sun is shining. The snow is melting. Let the week begin.

Painting No. 26

I'm getting SO close to being done. Whoo! And I tried something new for today - a close up of just one flower in bloom. It worked out pretty well. There are parts I'm not so happy with but that's how it goes. Practice. Learn. Repeat.

Painting No. 25

Hello, hello! I went back to some acrylic for today. A bright bunch of flowers defies what's happening outside my window at the moment - we're in the middle of a snowstorm which is only slightly depressing. Anyway, I hope these blooms can bring some cheer to someone.

Painting No. 24

It's Friday! Not that that means much to this stay at home mom, but you know...

I'm back with more watercolour prettiness today. I just love all the variations you can get with watercolour; they're more difficult to control but that makes for some lovely unplanned "accidents" at times.

#24 "Cluster" (Watercolour on Paper, 5X7)

I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

Painting No. 23

I'm back with a commission piece for today. It's very similar to an ink drawing I had posted earlier this month. It's neat to see how different styles, colours, etc. appeal to different people.

Painting No. 22

I'm back with some delicate watercolour flowers for today. I have such fun doing these! And once again I want to say a ginormous THANK YOU to everyone who has shown support for me in this endeavour. I'm getting pretty excited to hand over a big chunk of moola to my dear friend. And it's special to think of so many of you who now have my art in your homes. (I'm blushing just a little.) Thanks a million times over.

Ok. Today's Painting...

Painting No. 20

Hello, hello! A new week begins. I've got a cheerful and rather cute painting for today. I did it at my weekend class; it was a study in pointillism - we were to explore that style while painting a still life. I had just a simple pot of pansies on a striped cloth to go from. It turned out quite vibrant and happy.

#20 "Pansies on Point" (Watercolour on paper, 5X5)

Painting No. 19

Hello, friends! Here's the last in the "Garden Delights" series. I hope you're having a nice weekend. I've finished my art class now. It went well enough - always a lot to pack into two weekends. I'll show you my efforts at some point.

#19 "Garden Delights IV" (Acrylic on Canvas, 5X5)

SOLD

Here's a look at the four together.

I'll have something for sale tomorrow. Hope things are well with you. It's a folding laundry/TV kind of night for me.

Painting No. 18

I'm getting in just under the wire today! Almost didn't make the deadline. I've got another in the "Garden Delights" series for today. I'm doing a group of four by request (making them pre-sold). I hope you're having a lovely weekend. Once again, mine is full! I'll catch my breath at some point and get to doing more available-for-sale paintings too.

Painting No. 17

Happy Friday! Here's some vibrant colour to celebrate weekend time. The bright colours really pop against the dark background. This one has a similar mood to the painting I posted two days ago.

Hello, friends! Today's painting was inspired by one of my favourite Designers Guild fabrics. The colours are fun and bright - a little on the tropical side.

Painting No. 15

Here we are at the halfway point. Yay! It so happens that today's painting has turned out to be a favourite. Just what I need to renew my excitement and energy and propel me forward into the second half. I don't really want to part with this one, but I intend to do more like it. I'll get to doing one for me at some point. Hopefully someone out there likes this beauty as much as I do!

Painting No. 14

I needed a break from flowers, so this one is completely abstracted. I like exploring different shapes & colours with a focus on movement when I paint in the abstract. The painting kind of evolves as you go even if you started with a basic compositional idea. That's the excitement and challenge of it.

#14 "Sweep" (Acrylic on Canvas, 8X8)

Price: $40

The sides of the canvas are painted this fun mint colour. It's pretty rad.

Painting No. 13

Hello, friends! Today's painting is part of a collection I'm doing. Painting #7 "Garden Delights" happened last week and the person who purchased it asked for a collection of four to hang in a cluster. So, here's No. 2 in that series. Because it was a commission piece that makes it pre-sold, but there will more available paintings to come!

#13 "Garden Delights II" (Acrylic on Canvas, 5X5)

I hope you've had a good start to your week!

Painting No. 12

Today's painting came together this afternoon at my art class (yay!). We had to paint a still life (something I'm not very comfortable with) and had to preserve the white areas. In other words, the way I got white was by not painting the white areas - the paper itself is my white colour. It's rather challenging, and it was certainly something I hadn't tried before.

This piece is also slightly larger. I do have a frame I could pop it in if you'd like to see it framed before purchasing. Let me know.

#12 "Tulip Study" (Watercolour on Paper, 8X8)

Price: SOLD

After a full weekend I'm ready for a hot bath and a good sleep.

Painting No. 11

Sorry for the late post. My days are full, but it's still April 11th where I live, so you know, I haven't fallen off the wagon entirely. I've been at my art class yesterday and today, but we haven't really made it past the experimental/practice stage yet. Of course I need all the practice I can get, but there haven't been any quality paintings emerge so far!

I pulled this one out of the archives - I hope you don't mind. It's an ink drawing I did last year. It's obviously very restrained colour-wise and larger than any of the others have been. I thought it may appeal to someone.

#11 "Rising"  (Ink on Canvas Paper, 12X16)

Painting No. 10

And just like that I'm a third of the way through, although to be honest, it feels like a should be further along. Taking time to paint (and finish a painting) every day is tiring; it's kind of all I can think about most days. I'm learning a lot though. Getting in good practice. Overall, it's been a great experience. I just feel a little like kids on a long car ride... "Are we there yet?" Must. Keep. Painting.

#10 "Sweet Pea" (Watercolour on Paper, 5X5)

Price: SOLD

E-mail me to purchase: sarah.r.macmillan@gmail.com

I'm actually taking an art class this weekend and next, so I'm hoping to collect a few decent pieces for this project while I'm at it. You know, something about killing two birds with one stone.

It's Friday, folks!

Painting No. 9

Hello! Yesterday's painting was a popular one so I decided to do another like it. I should mention that if you had a favourite painting but it sold before you could nab it, do let me know. I'd be happy to do a commission piece for you. I'm open to working larger as well if you'd prefer a bigger piece. The price would go up but we could talk about that in advance.

Painting No. 7

Hello, friends! This one is hot off the press. In fact, the paint is still drying as I write this. I wanted to get away from the "flowers in vase" composition. This one is a smattering of greenery and blooms kind of suspended or maybe climbing?? Anyway, I'm happy with how it came together.

#7 "Garden Delights" (Acrylic on Canvas, 5X5)

Price: SOLD

E-mail me to purchase: sarah.r.macmillan@gmail.com

I realize all the paintings have been pretty tiny (mostly 5X5). They're really too small to hang on their own unless you have just a sliver of wall that needs a bit of art. Here are some ideas on how to work with small scale art.

Hang in a gallery with other pieces.

A midst a bookshelf display.

Leaned against some larger pieces on a console table, dresser, etc.

Thanks for stopping by!

Painting No. 6

Happy Monday! First off, I want to say a great big thank you for all your support. You're all simply terrific. I'm having such fun doing this too.

#6 "Sunday Bunch" (Watercolour on Paper, 5X5)

Price: $30

E-mail me to purchase: sarah.r.macmillan@gmail.com

Please Note: All of the paintings on paper have about a 1/2 inch paper edge around them to make it easier to frame etc. Obviously it can be trimmed off if you don't want it. The actual painting is 5X5 though. They come looking more like this.

Just wanted to mention that detail. I'm hoping to pick up a frame soon so I can give you an example of a framed piece too.

Hope you have a good start to your week!

Painting No. 5

Happy Easter! I hope you've had a nice weekend so far. We've been enjoying the down time and the sun and the chocolate. Also, my baby brother is home (happy dance) and it's his birthday and we all get to hang out... so you know, life is good.

I've gone back to some acrylic for today. Here she be.

#5 "Keep on the Sunny Side" (Acrylic on Canvas, 5X5)

Price: SOLD

Daily Painting No. 3

Happy Good Friday! I'm looking forward to the long weekend. Having "daddy" around means it will be easier to manage painting and three kids. We also get to have some good family time and of course piles of delicious food. I trust you have some special Easter plans too.

I've got a rather moody, dramatic kind of painting for today.

Daily Painting No.2

Hello, friends. Thanks for your support with yesterday's post. I briefly fantasized about coming back today and simply announcing "April Fools!" but of course that wouldn't do. I really am excited about sitting down to paint each and every day and being able to help a friend is even more exciting! It's just a bit of a job. I certainly admire those who've been doing daily paintings for months or even years at a time. Impressive.

I'm back with another flowery painting for today. I am working on a more abstract piece right now too; they won't all be flowers.

#2 "Bounty" (Watercolour on Paper, 5X5)

30 Days, 30 Paintings (And all for a Good Cause)

Hello, hello! Today is the 1st of April and I'm venturing out on a limb (with fingers crossed that this will work). This month has 30 days, and I plan to fill them with art making (more fingers crossed).

30 Days. 30 Paintings. And they'll all be for sale. I have a friend who could really use a helping hand right now. She's a single mom trying to manage life (school, work, kids, her house/yard, etc). There's a lot on her plate and money is tight. All proceeds from my art sales will go to helping her. I know she needs some repairs done on her house, so I'm thinking the money will go towards that.

For the month of April I'll be posting a daily painting. Each painting will be original, and I plan to use either watercolour or acrylic. Some pieces will be done on gallery-wrapped canvas, others on a high quality paper. Paintings on paper will be done in standard sizes so they can be framed easily (no custom framing needed). I'm happy to ship a piece to you if you don't live nearby. Please add 15% to help cover the cost of shipping. Payments can be made in person (if you live in the Saskatoon area); otherwise, payments can be made via paypal.

Email me if you see a painting you want and we'll go from there. Remember there's only one of each piece so if you like it, you should snatch it up! Thanks in advance for your support. I know it will make a difference for this family.

Ok. Let's get this party started!

#1 "A Bloomin' Beginning" (Acrylic on Canvas, 5X5)

Price: SOLD

Email me to purchase: sarah.r.macmillan@gmail.com

Please Note: The sides of the canvas have been painted a coordinating colour, and I've signed the back. Shoot me an e-mail if you'd like to purchase.

Thank you! Thank you!
